HWÆT!
Amedeo Leproni
Engineer, scientist, and builder working at the intersection of biology, hardware, and startups.
About.
I am currently a Founder in Residence at Entrepreneur First in London, building a rapid microbial QC and batch release platform for consumer goods and OTC, with a focus on automating microbiology to unlock inventory liquidity.
Previously, I built a high throughput lab imaging and phenotyping platform for plant parasitology, contributed to the FDA clearance of a surgical robotic system, and led a consulting project for AstraZeneca. I have studied at the University of Cambridge and UCL, and I speak four languages.
Fascinations.
- Automation that turns bottlenecks into throughput, especially in QC and manufacturing.
- Biological sensing and stress reporting in plants, from sugar signalling to scalable phenotyping.
- Hard problems in physical systems: robotics, sensing, and field to factory traceability.
- Bridging wet lab reality with ML and product, including spectroscopy, assay design, and data systems.
- Stewardship problems: food systems, forestry, and resilient infrastructure.
Interests.
Outside of work, I enjoy choral music and live concerts, equestrian sports, skiing and mountaneering, travel with a historical bent, learning languages, painting and photography.
Projects.
A selection of work across biology, hardware, and startups.
